WATCHMAKING

The different housing shapes

The different housing shapes

Round, oval, square, rectangular... the choice of case is essential. It's one of the first things you look at when buying a watch, even without realizing it. The shape is the basic element on which the design and look of the watch largely depend.

CORUM

These watch shapes are the most widely used by brands. The round shape is the most basic. 90% of watches sold are round. It's a standard found on both older models and connected watches. For those who prefer a classic, all-purpose shape, the round shape seems the most appropriate... The differentiation is then marked on the style, on the materials used, on the watch complications...

Oval and cushion watches, which are visually flatter than round watches, are more likely to be found on women's models. They offer a touch of originality if the wearer is looking for a change from the traditional round watch.

Square, rectangular watches

Squares and rectangles are the other two most commonly used shapes. They offer a more serious look and give the wearer a slightly more severe appearance. Stricter, the lines and angles of these watches almost give the owner the image of a rigorous person. However, eccentric models are also available!

Some square and rectangular watches have left their mark on the history of Haute WATCHMAKING. Among them are the remarkable Poiray timepieces.

Other housing shapes

The above shapes are the most common, but watchmakers can also have fun with octagonal, triangular or other innovative designs. The tonneau shape, on the other hand, is rarer and resolutely masculine. This rather original watch shape is rarely offered by brands.

And what type of housing are you?
